Website and booking system for protecting cars from hurricanes
For a Florida company that moves cars to safe, higher ground before a hurricane, we built a WordPress website and a custom booking plugin: a 7-step request, plan selection, up to four vehicles per request and a customer account with saved vehicles.
SaveMyCar is a Florida company that protects cars from hurricane flooding. When a hurricane warning is issued, their drivers pick up the car from a home, condo or parking area, drive it to higher, protected ground and bring it back once the storm has passed. The service is aimed at Florida residents, snowbirds and seasonal visitors, as well as rental car companies, dealerships and fleet managers. Our task was to build a WordPress website and a booking system that works like a small application: it guides the customer step by step, remembers their vehicles and sends the request to the company.
The brief
Here you don't book a time slot but the relocation of a specific vehicle from a specific address, so standard scheduling plugins were not a good fit. One customer can register several vehicles, the plan depends on how many relocations they need in a season, and returning customers shouldn't have to type everything in again. The website also had to explain the service in a few seconds and lead straight to booking, because the decision is often made when a storm is already on its way. All of it had to work flawlessly on the phone, in English, for the US market.
What we delivered
- Design and development of the WordPress website, on the Blocksy theme customized through a child theme
- A custom booking plugin: a 7-step request with a progress bar and validation at every step
- Vehicle type selection (car or motorcycle) and up to four vehicles per request, with year, make and model
- Three protection plans: a single relocation, a Premium plan and a VIP/Family plan
- Returning customers recognized by email: their details and saved vehicles are filled in automatically
- A customer account where customers add, edit and delete their vehicles
- Data validation before sending: email, US-format phone number and 5-digit ZIP code
- Required confirmations before submitting: that relocation depends on the National Hurricane Center's danger zones and that the vehicle is in drivable condition
- Request confirmation by email
- Pages about the service, plans and company, a contact form and a 24/7 emergency phone number
- Legal pages: terms and conditions and privacy policy
- A fast website with LiteSpeed caching and basic SEO optimization
